I have been looking around for a while now but I cant seem to find a good tutorial on using OllyDBG for generating serials. I am tired of relying on other people and torrents to get software I want and would like to learn how to do it myself. I'm 18 and I ship out to Army Basic Training soon and need something to pass the time by so i figured I'd give this a shot.

I also see a lot of stuff about SoftIce but from what I understand it is old and no longer works all that well. OllyDBG seems to partially work but I get a lot of errors while using it and that doesn't help much. Is there anything better than these?

I'm not familiar with OllyDBG but I want to make sure I understand what you are trying to do. Are you using OllyDBG to acces the source code and get the key from that? Forgive me if I'm way off on this. Like I said I'm not familiar with this particular softwar.

From what I understand is you find the algorithm that the program uses to compare the key to then you write your own small program using the information you found to generate your own keys.

I may have found something to help you. Here's a link to a Word document entitled 'Implementing and Defeating Executable File Protection'.

Perhaps it can get you started on where you need to be. Also try searching Google for "locating algorithm with OllyDBG". This i where I found the word Doc. There should be more info on this topic. You may need to adjust the search string.
