URL log in

Is it possible to log in into a website through URL(username/password)? Like we post our answers in the puzzles. Any info would be highly appreciated.
generally speaking: yes, it is.
However most sites won't allow login over a GET-request, since URL-sniffing is too easy those days.. Some sites may offer API's however, to enable remote logins and such.
