I got something similar a few days ago. People don't seem to be able to learn something
by themselves, which makes me wonder how mankind came down from the trees...

To be quite honest, this site is for the challenges, to help you learn different aspects of "hacking", from encryption to programming, to web. The Hacker's Server forum, is more for random bullshit, and yes to help others learn different skills and so forth. But that's completely different than people coming in here asking for help hacking into there school computer, or trying to steal cc info and other fraud related activity. And when shit like that gets posted it put red flags on the site and because of that shit, I guarantee that the feds and other law enforcement agencies monitor this site as well as others on a regular basis. Waiting for some dumb ass to tell how he's hacked into some bank. And while that person may have committed the crime, it's makes everyone here suspicious.

lol... which reminds me. The feds probably have a decryption/translation filter that converts all 1337 language into normal text so the operators can read it better.

Actually no. Many of the hackers here or on sites like wechall, hackquest, tbs etc are self-taught.
There is also a question of ethics in hacking.

For example I decided to help someone along last week who asked the right questions. Things like what kind of NIDS I prefer and why, how the different configurations of a hardware firewall will affect the effectiveness of its purpose etc. Instead of just 'how do I hack'. A question like that shows me: I dont care. I can't be bothered. Do the work for me.

In over 10 years of playing challenge sites and other non-challenge related hacks (I'm a white-hat btw, nothing illegal) I have only ever decided to 'train' three people - the ones who asked the right questions and showed potential. I use the word 'train' loosely here. I am not someone who knows everything. Actually after 10 years I am still learning myself, I like to share knowledge with those who I feel could put it to good use and those who really want to LEARN rather than be TOLD.

Research, read, understand. In a year or so come back. Perhaps then we will help.

I like you sabretooth, you are right on the money. If a person isn't willing to "Research, Read, and Understand", they won't learn a thing. You can tell someone this is how it's done, but they won't truly learn anything, and one of the key components to being a "hacker" is the willingness to constantly learn. It's not like doing an oil change where you learn how to do it and then you just know. The IT/computer/"hacking" world, is ever evolving and to keep up you have to constantly "Research, READ, and understand".

My point though with that analogy was that when you learn how to do an oil change, it's essentially the same on any car, everytime (with the exception of a lot of higher end vehicles, I hear they are a little trickier). The location of the filter may change, but the process is generally always the same. With "hacking" or security, you have to keep up with it, the attacks, methodology, tools, hardware, technology, etc change constantly. You can't just say "Teach me to hack" and expect someone to respond to that. It's something that requires discipline and a willingness to teach yourself. ie: do the research, read, and make yourself understand what you are researching and reading. No body can "tell" you how to be a hacker, they can only give insight. It not like karate kid either where Mr. Miyagi is gonna take you under his wing and teach all the secrets. The fact is none of it is really a secret. The information is out there. You just have to work to find it on your own and understand it, and implement it in new and creative ways.
